Cooperative board management on Mithaq

Credit unions, consumer cooperatives, worker cooperatives.

What a cooperative board is accountable for

A cooperative board answers to members who are also depositors, customers or workers, and it has to hold the line between serving them today and remaining solvent for them in ten years. Credit unions add a regulator on top of that, and the two pressures pull in opposite directions.

What recurs on the agenda

  1. 01Member lending policy, delinquency and the provisioning that follows it
  2. 02Reserve and capital adequacy against the cooperative statute or regulator floor
  3. 03Dividend or rebate declaration and its effect on reserves
  4. 04Director elections, term limits and the independence of the supervisory committee
  5. 05Related-party lending to directors and staff, declared and separately approved
Member confidence in a cooperative is rebuilt with disclosure, not with reassurance. The annual pack either shows the arrears and the insider loans or it does not.

Powered by the Mithaq core

Cooperative tenants run on Mithaq's 42 universal governance modules: meetings, decisions, audit trail, members, documents, contracts, budget, accounts and the rest. Sector-specific modules appear here when we onboard the first customer in the sector; we do not advertise a module before it ships.
